Vaccines for hepatitis viruses vary, and not all types have one yet. We do have vaccines for Hepatitis A and Hepatitis B, which protect against those infections. For Hepatitis C, there is no licensed vaccine currently available, even though effective treatments with direct-acting antivirals exist. The reason vaccines are challenging for Hepatitis C relates to the virus’s high genetic diversity and the immune responses needed for lasting protection. Hepatitis D doesn’t have its own separate vaccine either, but vaccination against Hepatitis B indirectly protects against Hepatitis D because HDV needs the Hepatitis B surface antigen to replicate.
